Rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted, we aim to transform young people’s lives through inspirational teaching workshops and effective student support services.

Through NXT CREATIVES we have opened our facilities out of hours, all year round, to offer creative skills workshops to 10 – 18 year olds at both our Big Creative Training and Big Creative Academy sites in Waltham Forest. Both campuses are resourced with all the latest music, media, fashion and performing arts studios, mac suites and the latest software and equipment. NXT CREATIVES provides a valuable resource for our local community, providing access to 1,000 young people per year, during every school holiday, half term, saturdays and evenings. These are times where services and youth provision for our young people have seen drastic cuts in recent years.

A new report from Sian Berry reveals young people are being shut out as 81 London youth clubs and council youth projects have closed their doors since 2011. The cumulative amount not spent on services for young people in London is now more than £145 million. Findings also show:

  • Overall there has been a 44% youth service budget cut, with the average council taking £1.5 million out of youth services over this time.
  • Across 25 councils with like-for-like data, 81 youth centres and major council supported youth projects have been cut At least a further £1.2 million is being cut from 15 councils in 2018/19 budgets.

The creative industries sector still has significant growth in London’s economy. It is proven that the arts improve selfesteem and social skills. The arts also teach critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills, key to sustaining employment. We are very proud of the impact and of the creativity we have delivered through the NXT CREATIVES programme in our first 18 months. This report aims to showcase some of the great work we do for the young people of London and the funding we require to ensure an ongoing future for the programme.
